The closest one is in Asheville, North Carolina. The major ones include Charlotte, Nashville, or Atlanta. There are many airports that will give you access to different parts of the Blue Ridge Highway. There is about 3″ of rain in June and about 8 days with some humidity. The weather (which varies greatly depending on the elevation) is relatively warm with average highs in the 80s, yet the mountains offer cooler temperatures than you’ll find in the lower elevations. It is one of the best places to go in America for a June trip. There are also annual events such as the NC Rhododendron Festival in Bakersville, Art in the Park in Blowing Rock, and Doc Watson Day in Boone. The trees become a verdant green and wildflowers such as rhododendrons, mountain laurel, and flame azaleas are in bloom throughout the month. June is an especially great time to make the journey along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Virginia’s Mabry Mill is one of the region’s many historical attractions, not to mention the single most photographed spot on the Blue Ridge Parkway. The privately-owned Grandfather Mountain attraction is home to the Mile-High Swinging Bridge, a small zoo featuring native North Carolina animals, and myriad picnic areas. Grandfather Mountain State Park is also home to some of the area’s most epic trails (including several with ladders to climb massive boulders). The 6,684-foot Mount Mitchell is the tallest mountain in the Eastern US, with numerous different hiking trails and a relatively easy and short paved path to the observation platform at the summit. So naturally there are a lot of things to do along the way, including some 200 remarkably scenic Blue Ridge Parkway overlooks that offer stunning views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The Blue Ridge Parkway is the longest linear park in the country, taking travelers through the Jefferson, George Washington, Nantahala, and Pisgah National Forests. It’s also the #1 most visited unit in the entire US National Park system and one of the best destinations to visit in the USA in June. Stretching 469 miles through the Blue Ridge Mountains– from Great Smoky Mountains National Park in North Carolina to Shenandoah National Park in Virginia– the Blue Ridge Parkway is arguably the most epic road trip in the United States of America.
